The Walking Dead (64)
I first watched The Walking Dead when season 6 was airing, and I followed the show until I dropped it after season 8. I reviewed seasons 1-3 from 2017-2019. I plan to come back and cover until at least season 6 at some point when I have the motivation.
The Walking Dead is a show that I have a very complicated relationship with. I loved season 1 and found the concept of a post-apocalyptic world infested by zombies to be tantalizing, ideal for some great storytelling. Unfortunately, The Walking Dead never hit the highs of its first season ever again, and watching the show for the seven seasons that followed consisted of me repeatedly getting my hopes up that the show was learning from its mistakes and improving, only to be disappointed at the most crucial junctures over and over again. For every great episode in a season, The Walking Dead would include two awful ones in the next season. This was my experience with the show until I eventually dropped it out of frustration when it went on its worst run through seasons 7 and 8. It's a shame that The Walking Dead did not end up being better than it was, because it could have been one of the great TV shows of the 2010s. But as it stands, it's a show that went on too long and made a number of agonizingly painful decisions that prevented it from reaching the highs that it could have.
